Why should I get involved?

As a student representative, you’ll gain practical experience in governance and institutional decision-making, strengthen your leadership and communication skills, and build a professional profile that enhances your future career opportunities.

Student representatives are critical to University life and advocating for what matters to students – a positive University experience, excellent learning and teaching, supporting student wellbeing and creating positive change. 

If you’re passionate about making a difference in the student community, there’s a role for you.  

What’s the difference between Senate, Academic board and faculty boards? 

• Senate is the University’s most senior governing body. As a student representative, you’ll help ensure students have a voice in discussions about the University’s future direction and priorities. 

• Academic boards are faculty-based and focus on the academic experience. Student representatives share feedback and perspectives on teaching, learning, assessment and the overall student experience.

• Faculty board representatives share student perspectives to highlight what’s working well or could be improved in their faculty or discipline. Faculty and University School Boards are the primary academic governance bodies responsible for overseeing all academic matters while operating within the authority of Senate and the Academic Board. 

• Representatives for University school boards help ensure the ideas and concerns of students in their school are heard. 

What experience do you need?

You don’t need previous leadership or governance experience to nominate. You just need to care about making a difference and want to advocate for your peers. 

When do I need to nominate by?

Nominations close at 12 pm (AEST) on Monday 14 September 2026.
